Replica of a submachine gun, made of metal and wood, with a loading and firing simulation mechanism and a removable magazine.
The M1928 automatic submachine gun designed by John Taliaferro Thompson in 1918 was adopted in 1938 by the United States Armed Forces serving during World War II and later in the Korean War as well as in the first cases of the Vietnam War. It was the favorite of soldiers, criminals, police officers and civilians for its ergonomics, compact size, reliability, high rate of fire in automatic mode and for its .45 ACP ammunition. It had a straight magazine of 20 rounds or a magazine of 50 to 100 rounds.
It acquired a bad reputation during the Prohibition or dry law era in the United States (1920-1933). It normally appeared in the means of the time, when it was the preferred weapon of gangsters. It has come to earn nicknames like Trench Broom, Trench Sweeper, Chicago Typewriter, Chicago Piano, Chicago Style or The Chopper.
Since then, it has gained popularity among collectors due to its historical significance.
