This is the regulatory cavalry guidon was carried by the troops of Union cavalry during the Civil War.
It was usually "customized" by placing a letter "troop" inside the circle of gold stars.
The U.S. Cavalry was later used these bars in West Plains during the Indian Wars.
It was also the flags of Colonel George A. Custer and "7th Cavalry" worn at the Battle of "Little Big Horn".
